A new “paint stripping" method with non toxic solvents
Project outline We present a new dimethylsulphoxide (DMSO) and limonene based paint stripping composition and a device for its application. This is formed from a non-woven cloth absorbent layer in which the paint stripper is included, covered with an aluminium protective support layer suitable for a method of paint stripping by peeling. The new paint-remover is in gel form and DMSO has the advantage of greater safety than other solvents.
Innovative aspects and main advantages Non-toxic and non-chlorinated compounds with good solvent properties and
with a pleasant odour of citrus constitute the composition. Solvents are released in a gradual
controlled manner and the protective support enables a better contact, an easy
removal of residues and a reduction in solvent evaporation. The product is easy
to use and operators can give a predefined form to the application for a better
definition of the intervention area.
Applications The method can be employed on wooden,
metal and plastic supports painted with alkyl, acrylic, polyurethane, epoxy and
water paints. Different prototypes are proposed for use in several fields from
restoration to ship building, from flooring to building and “Do It Yourself”
activities.
Potential market Our potential target market is the companies that produce paint and paint-strippers,
as well as companies that require innovative and specific paint-stripping
systems.
